Dr. Charles Onochie Ochie, Sr., Ph.D. (Ogbuevi) is a Professor of Criminal Justice and the Dean of the Graduate School at Albany State University (ASU). He also serves as Activities Director for a multi-million-dollar U.S. Department of Education HBCU grant supporting graduate STEM programs.
Previously, he was Chair of Criminal Justice and Forensic Science for 18 years, playing a key role in building and directing ASU’s Forensic Science program, including developing its graduate curriculum concentration, and helping create the first fully online M.S. in Criminal Justice in the USG system.
Dr. Ochie earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice (ASU, 1987), an M.S. in Sociology (Valdosta State University, 1989), and a Ph.D. in Sociology-Criminology (Oklahoma State University, 1993). He has taught at multiple institutions before returning to ASU in 1997.
As Graduate Dean, he has expanded graduate enrollment and supported the creation of new graduate STEM programs. He is also a major community and nonprofit leader—founding or leading organizations such as Prof. Charles Ochie Educational Foundation, IDRO, Albany Second Chance, and several cultural/economic development foundations in Nigeria, and previously served as President of the African Criminology and Justice Association. He is widely published, presents internationally, serves as a Visiting Professor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Awka, Nigeria), and is active on local boards and as a newspaper columnist in Southwest Georgia.
He is married to Mrs. Chinelo Ochie and they have four grown children and seven grandchildren.
